Through our work at Center for Green Market Activation (GMA) and ZEMBA, we know that ???? ??? ????? ??????? ??? ??? to harnessing collective ambition and driving scalable investment to decarbonize heavy transport and industry. We also know companies need clarity that the green energy and commodity certificates issued by those systems will count towards their ambitious climate targets. The draft Version 2 Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Corporate Net Zero Standard sends a clear message that they will.
Much remains to be done to finalize the draft Standard. These details matter so we will engage closely with SBTi throughout this process and encourage companies to do the same.
We don’t want to downplay this moment, however. With this draft, SBTi is sending a strong signal to companies: invest in deep decarbonization in heavy industry and transport, including through book and claim. ??. ???. ????.
In case it wasn’t clear enough, they specifically call out the example of supporting sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through a book and claim approach to address scope 3 aviation emissions. This example easily translates to maritime, trucking, steel, cement, chemicals and more. ???? ?? ????? ?? ??? ??????? ????????, ??? ??? ???????? ???? ???? ????.
